Crafted from 1 Wood + 1 Iron, or dropped by Troodont, Dragon, and Larva.
What It's For
Equip it in the Sub-weapon slot. A Shield and body armor don't add up: against each attack, whichever of the two blocks more is used. A Shield blocks extra damage from Wolf, Stag, Troodont, Dragon, Spider, Larva, Brineclaw, Burstsquid and Tar Slick (and Giant Mouse and Giant Flea in dungeons), so that's where it beats your armor.
