Getting Started

Creating your character, your first flag, and how to move around the world.

Horizon Era is a persistent world built on top of the real world — every flag, city, and kingdom is anchored to true geography, but you never need to actually walk anywhere yourself. The map is just a backdrop; movement and every action happens entirely in-game.

Creating your character

  • Register with an email, a display name (must be unique — case-insensitive), and a password.
  • Choose your character's gender once at registration — this is permanent and can't be changed later.
  • You'll spawn near your real-world GPS position if location access is available (best-effort — it's fine if it isn't).

What you start with

  • A starter Sword +0, already equipped.
  • 6 Wood and 6 Leather — enough for two more Flags (3 Wood + 3 Leather each) — and a Starter Backpack that carries as much as a +0 Backpack (it can't be traded, dropped or upgraded).
  • Your first Flag, already built — this becomes your first "active" flag (see Getting Around).
  • 100 Roc Feathers, the currency used for fast travel.
  • 200 Starter Food, shown in green next to your Food. Starter Food only pays for Level Ups (it's used before your regular Food) and can't be traded or spent on anything else. Whatever is left stays yours.
  • For your first 5 days, a daily gift of 240 Starter Food by Mail once you've earned 100 Pages that day. After that, the daily gift is 240 regular Food once you're Level 5 and have earned 100 Pages that day (resets at midnight, Malaysia time).

Enabling location access on mobile

Your real-world GPS position is used in two places: your one-time spawn location at registration, and the in-game Relocate to Real-World Position action. Both are entirely optional — if location access isn't available, you'll just spawn at a default location instead.

  • iOS (Safari): Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → make sure it's ON. Then find Safari in that same list (or Settings → Safari → Location) and set it to "Ask" or "While Using the App".
  • Android (Chrome): Settings → Location → make sure it's ON. Chrome will then prompt you the next time a location-using action runs.
  • When the prompt appears, tap Allow — it only needs to happen once per browser.

Tip: Already tapped "Don't Allow" once? Tapping Relocate again won't bring the prompt back — that's a browser security rule, not something the game controls. Undo it manually: on iOS, tap the "aA" icon in Safari's address bar → Website Settings → Location → Allow; on Android, tap the lock/info icon next to the address bar → Permissions → Location → Allow. Then refresh the page.

Moving and interacting

  • Double-click (or double-tap) anywhere on the ground to walk there.
  • Single-click (or tap) any entity — a tree, a monster, a cave, another player — to open its action menu.
  • Chop, Hunt, and Pickup all work the same way: your character walks to the target, then performs a short timed action with a progress bar.
  • Line up more work: while you're busy with a task, tap another one in your circle and it's done next — Chop, Mine, Dig Up, Pick Up, picking a Berry / Flower / Sap / Thistle, Tend a sapling, gather Lichen and Harden a Flag. Up to 5 can wait in line (10 for Platinum members). A strip above the bottom bar shows what's next, with Clear. Walking somewhere yourself, getting hit, a Jump or going inside clears the list.

Quick Slots

The lightning button under Recenter (top right) opens your Quick Slots: one-tap shortcuts for Heal with Berry, Build Flag, Plant Berry, Build a Buoy, Taunt, or equipping a piece of gear. Tap the pencil, then a slot, to choose what goes in it. A gear slot equips that item, or takes it off if it's already worn. 5 slots are free; 5 more on the left side unlock for 100 Platinum each. Your Quick Slots are saved to your account.

The Menu

The Menu button in the bottom HUD is your hub for everything: Character, Inventory, Build, Craft, Skills, Estates, Rankings, Friends, Mail, and Community. Your HP and EXP bars, Gold, Food, Roc Feather count, and bag weight all live in the bottom HUD too, always visible.

Tip: Low on HP? Pick a tree's Berry and eat it from your Bag for a heal-over-time effect, or just wait — you regenerate slowly over time even without one.
